FAQ

If you don’t see your question here, email us at info@sloicerink.org.

What exactly are we building?
A year-round community ice rink and events facility serving San Luis Obispo County—supporting youth and adult hockey, figure skating, learn-to-skate, speed skating, public skating, and inclusive recreation. The long-term vision includes the ability to convert the venue for concerts and events when ice is not scheduled.
Where will it be located?
We are evaluating multiple potential parcels with appropriate zoning. We remain open to additional sites in the 8–10 acre range, with the facility footprint and parking needs sized to support larger events.
What stage is the project in right now?
Early groundwork is underway: a feasibility study has been completed with Cal Poly, sponsor interest exists, potential parcels have been evaluated, and the concept has been presented to SLO City Council with encouragement to grow community momentum.
Why are donations important before construction begins?
Community donations create visible momentum and help demonstrate demand—making it easier to secure sponsors, major donors, and partnership steps. Broad participation is a powerful signal to stakeholders.
How can local businesses get involved?
Sponsorships, in-kind support, and introductions to potential partners all help. If you know a business that loves the Central Coast, email us and we’ll share sponsorship options.
How will the rink be financially sustainable?
Successful rinks typically combine multiple revenue streams: public sessions, programs/lessons, leagues, tournaments, rentals, and events. The facility concept also supports multi-use event potential for additional year-round revenue.
Is this project affiliated with the LA Kings?
We have engaged the LA Kings organization for potential fundraising support (such as ticket incentives), but the SLO Ice Rink Project is community-driven. Any promotions or donated items are offered through our project and are not an official Kings sponsorship unless explicitly stated.
How do I help the most?
Three big ways: (1) donate, (2) share the fundraiser with friends/schools/teams, and (3) introduce a sponsor or community partner. Even small actions compound into real momentum.
